LOVE HIS WORD

By Teresa Herold

“Longing for Sincerity”

Today's verse comes from 1 Peter 2:2. “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.” I have read this verse many times. This time the word sincere stood out to me. Even though I knew what it meant, I looked up the word sincere. I like to look up definitions because sometimes the description makes the word come to life more. I really like the definition in the Merriam-Webster. It describes sincere as HONEST, PURE, GENUINE, and TRUE. In a world full of insincere statements and actions, I often go to HIS WORD just to get hold of something that is HONEST, PURE, GENUINE, and TRUE. What a comfort HIS WORD can be when we just simply read it. James 1:22 also reminds us to “...be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only…” The real challenge is to apply HIS WORD. I was actually getting frustrated by a lot of insincerity that I was exposed to when my attention went to the word “desire” in the verse. The LORD drew my attention away from the insincerity of things to help me dive into what else this verse could teach me. The word “desire” got me thinking about this verse in a different way. The word desire is a command. GOD knows our desires will be selfish and not provide the kind of nourishment we need, so HE tells us what to desire. I started asking myself some hard questions. Do I really desire HIS WORD as fervently as a baby demanding milk? They are not going to grow unless it is milk that they receive.  Do I long for a verse or a chapter or a book throughout the day just like a baby needing nourishment?  My granddaughter gets excited when she sees her bottle of milk.  I am examining my own desires and asking GOD to show me what is real in my life. Do I get excited to see my Bible sitting there waiting to be opened.  Do I get excited to spend time with my Lord and Saviour JESUS Christ by opening HIS WORD?  I am asking the LORD to reveal to me if my deisre for HIS WORD is what it should be.  What do you desire? Is it HONEST, PURE, GENUINE, and TRUE? When we desire sincerity, we will always find it in GOD’s HOLY WORD.
