“Something to think about”

During my last entry, I focused on desiring God’s Word throughout the day. That got me to continue to ponder on the word desire. I find that my desires come from what I think about a lot. So, when asking myself the question, “Do I desire HIS WORD throughout the day?” I was forced to ponder on what kind of things do I think about? I asked myself if what I think about is proper. I noticed that a lot of my thoughts were about me. It seemed that I had a lot of thoughts that begun with the word I. I asked GOD to forgive me of my selfishness and then I asked HIM, “What should I think about so I get the attention off myself?” What do you know, the LORD even tells us in HIS WORD what to think about? It is wonderful to have an answer like “…Think on these things” found in Philippians 4:8. So guess what today’s verse is? Yes, Philippians 4:8 is the verse of the day. “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. A list of things to be thinking about was exactly what I needed. It is a good idea to ask ourselves the question, “Does what I think about line up with HIS WORD?” If I focus on things like Anger, Frustration, Temptation, Disappointment, and Fear, my thoughts will dictate my desires. I will desire revenge, retaliation, selfishness, and etc. that are not part of HIS plan for me. I can purpose in my heart to focus on those things that are TRUE, HONEST, JUST, PURE, LOVELY, and of a GOOD REPORT. The things we think about we will desire. I want to desire JESUS and HIS PLAN for me. JESUS is TRUE, HONEST, JUST, PURE, LOVELY AND OF A GOOD REPORT. HE is good for my thoughts and HE leads me to proper desires. Jesus is who I want to think about not myself. Jesus is who I want to talk about. The things we desire will come to surface in our speech and actions. I find myself desiring to study more, pray with more persistance, share more often, wait longer, watch for HIM closer.  It is so important to protect our thoughts. I have heard it said many times, “You can’t keep a bird from flying over your head, but you can stop it from building a nest in your hair.” I don’t know who originally said that but it is a good illustration of letting hurtful thoughts keep on flying and only pondering on those things that line up with JESUS.  HE is worth thinking about.
